The installation is made from 'Opa' a material sourced locally, akin to bamboo, which the residents of iwaya community use to make their houses on stilts. The performance begins at the first element
The audience is welcome to sit and interact with sand either by making patterns or running their hands through sand, they can do as they please. The point is to be grounded. To feel and connect with the earth. That in itself is healing and transformative. It also boosts the immune system. From there they move to fire FIRE - this is an element that purifies and transmutates intention. They will be guided to vent on a piece of paper for those who can write and then put it into the fire pit where it'll be burnt and set free. This allows for release of stagnant emotion
This medium is going to highlight the cleansing power of the element water. Seeing that they've first engaged with the earth, they will now wash their hands clean, dry and moisturise.
This also reflects the current health climate -covid19 and creates an avenue to share how to mindfully wash hands in order to reduce the spread of germs. This then flows into the final part of the performance Air/breath
Having properly washed hands, three people at a time will be invited to sit with the artist for a mindful breath meditation.
The artist creates a breathscape drawing from her yoga practice in pranayama(breath control) which is deeply healing and helps achieve catharsis thus concluding the performance cycle.
The breathscape and soothing soundscape is curated to evoke tranquility and serenity
